Nodding at the Universe
“Nodding at the Universe” is collection of songs produced throughout 2002. “I Couldn’t Leave Her Behind” has been a concert favorite for several years and had its radio premiere at Yellow Beat in Japan earlier this year. “Ladyluck” is basically about displaced groups of people in war or in great poverty. The innocent victims of Afghanistan, not the soldiers. “A Crack” is another well received live nugget from Donkey that has already begun to get airplay on CIUT FM in Toronto. “A Place To Lie” is a beautiful love song which once again is a time tested highlight of the band in a live context. Next up is “The Throne” a dark piece about the psychological and moral disintegration of an individual who chases a dream that ultimately becomes a nightmare. The album continues into further explorations of avant-garde songwriting (“Killing Field”), symphonic pop such as “Her Heart Has Wings” and mysticism as on the finale “The Earth & Sky Are Dancing”, a collaboration between Radeff and Bulgarian choir conductor Tzevte Becela. Each track on the CD stands on it’s own but the CD as whole is the real treat.
